About the event
What is BlockChain?
A continuously list of growing records, called Blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography. An open distributed ledger that can record transactions efficiently, in a verifiable and permanent way.
BlockChains are secure by design – a distributed computing system. By storing data across its network, the Bockchain eliminates risks by data being stored or held centrally. This makes it suitable for BlockChains to record events, transaction processing, voting, food traceability, identity management etc.
Importance of BlockChain:
BlockChain and Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are taking the world by imagination and are growing at an ever-increasing pace.
BlockChain Summit Hong Kong is among the most significant tech findings of the 21st century and curiosity around this subject continues to grow more and more.
Blockchain forum will bring together experts who will discuss opportunities, challenges and innovations that are shaping this ‘New Wave’.
While few central banks, in countries such as India, China, US, Sweden, Singapore, South Africa and the UK are studying the issuance of a Central Bank Issued Crytocurrency, none have done thus far. Blockchain conferences promises to bring significant efficiencies to global supply chains, financial transactions, asset ledgers and de centralised social networking.
2018 is believed to pave the path for BlockChain to align with other emerging technologies such as Machine Learning, AI, Security, Internet of Things.
Our aim is to educate and evolve with the eco system. Creating collaboration opportunities about the latest trends in the space of cryptocurrency and BlockChain. With the lineup of industry experts we bring together perspectives across different industries, delve on the latest happenings, and discuss used cases.
We have created an ideal platform for practitioners and industry experts to meet, exchange ideas and collaborate.

Next Generation Blockchain and Consensus Mechanisms
Speaker: Henrique Centieiro, Blockchain Product Manager at Zwoop.
Topic of Abstract: Bitcoin and the Proof of Work consensus mechanism is the first generation blockchain. Proof of Work is a very safe consensus mechanism but demands huge computing power and energy consumption.
Second generation blockchains like Dash and NEO use Proof of Stake consensus mechanisms and other blockchains use variations of the Proof of Stake mechanism like Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS), Proof of Burn, Proof of Deposit and Proof of Activity.
Third generation “blockchains” use even more disruptive consensus mechanisms (so disruptive we cannot call them blockchains anymore). That’s the case of Hedera Hashgraph and IOTA with the Directed Acyclic Graph.
In this presentation we are going to talk about pros and cons of each blockchain generation, use cases and examples.

Blockchain – A Game Changer for Smart City Development?
Speaker: Sabine Reppert, Digital Transformation coach, Founder & Director at Intent-X Coaching and Management Consulting Institute
Topic of Abstract: How and when can government, industries, startups and citizens leverage Blockchain technologies to enhance Smart City development?
Many business leaders still associate Blockchain with Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. In fact, there are various Blockchain technologies for different purposes, and major research firms are rapidly accelerating their evolutions. Blockchain technologies in combination with other emerging technologies — like the internet of things, artificial intelligence, decentralized applications or web 3.0 — have enormous potential for shaping future Smart Cities.
A Smart City uses digital technologies to promote performance, sustainability and well being, and to increase its ability to respond to citywide and global challenges (resilience). Traditional Smart City initiatives, like the Hong Kong Smart City Blueprint (https://www.smartcity.gov.hk), focus on”Smart Mobility”, “Smart Living”, “Smart Environment”, “Smart People”, “Smart Government” and “Smart Economy”, etc. However, the potential for Blockchain to improve and impact these initatives has yet to be fully explored or realized.
Speaker Bio: Sabine Reppert is a certified management consultant (CMC®) and the founder and director of Intent-X Limited, a Hong Kong-based firm since 2014, specialised in helping business leaders driving digital business transformation more effectively.
Sabine recently founded blockchain-savvy.com, an online education platform for companies who embark on the Blockchain innovation journey.
Sabine received a Master’s in Mathematics from Philipps University, Germany, and specialized in cryptography before becoming a software engineer for train control systems in 1995. After sixteen-year of developing and managing large-scale projects in the field of industrial automation in Germany and the US, Sabine founded her first coaching and consultancy business in Germany in 2011. Sabine also holds a Master’s in Business Coaching and Change Management from European University of Applied Sciences in Germany and earned certificates from HBX Harvard Business School®, (“Disruptive Strategies” by Prof. C. Christensen) and the Presencing Institute (MIT), USA (“Theory-U” by O. Scharmer).
Besides coaching and consulting for large-scale international companies like Siemens, Bombardier, Bosch and Infinity, Sabine works as a mentor coach for tech start-ups. Sabine is a founding member of the Mettā entrepreneurs club in Hong Kong and a member of the Hong Kong Blockchain Society. For senior executives, Sabine teaches “Digital Business Transformation in Hong Kong” at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Enabling managers and IT-experts to leverage Blockchain for creating meaningful applications beyond Bitcoin became one of Sabine’s latest passions.
