BlockChain Forum 2018 – The Next Wave

Auckland, New Zealand
8:45 am - 5:00 pm

About the event

What is BlockChain?

A continuously list of growing records, called Blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography. An open distributed ledger that can record transactions efficiently, in a verifiable and permanent way.

BlockChains are secure by design – a distributed computing system. By storing data across its network, the Bockchain eliminates risks by data being stored or held centrally. This makes it suitable for BlockChains to record events, transaction processing, voting, food traceability, identity management etc.

Importance of BlockChain:

BlockChain and Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are taking the world by imagination and are growing at an ever-increasing pace.

This is among the most significant tech findings of the 21st century and curiosity around this subject continues to grow more and more.

BlockChain forum 2018 will bring together experts who will discuss opportunities, challenges and innovations that are shaping this ‘New Wave’.

While few central banks, in countries such as India, China, US, Sweden, Singapore, South Africa and the UK are studying the issuance of a Central Bank Issued Cryptocurrency, none have done thus far. Blockchain promises to bring significant efficiencies to global supply chains, financial transactions, asset ledgers and de centralised social networking.

2018 is believed to pave the path for BlockChain to align with other emerging technologies such as Machine Learning, AI, Security, Internet of Things.

Why attend?

Our aim is to educate and evolve with the eco system creating collaboration opportunities about the latest trends in the space of Cryptocurrency and BlockChain. Blockchain Trends in Business / Enterprise
: Andrew Gillick, Researcher and Reporter at Brave New Coin

Topic of Abstract:  Dubbed the “truth machine” that will streamline the world of business, prevent fraud and counterfeiting and even verify the provenance of goods, blockchain is talked about like a magic wand that can fix all problems in the commercial world.

Here we look beyond the excitement to see in which industries will it have most impact and what are the advantages of it over the existing legacy systems? What trends are we already seeing towards decentralization across the supply chains in the commodities, logistics, healthcare, energy and finance?

It is also important to consider what demographic trends mean for business and why companies should consider the changing preferences and values of the millennial generation which is set to overtake the baby boomers in size in the next couple of years.

We will look into the myriad of permissioned, public and private protocols, and which blockchain is best for your business, from Hyperledger to Blockchain as a Service (BaaS). And we will consider why blockchain may or may not be even applicable to your business to begin with.

There is a revolution underway so future-proof your business by understanding the potential of this incredibly powerful new technology.

Speaker Bio: Andrew Gillick is a researcher and reporter at Brave New Coin, a digital asset research and data company. He has spent his career working in the financial media and was previously Business Production Director at the New Zealand Herald. Now focusing on the blockchain industry, Andrew looks at trends in finance, psychology and socionomics to write about the macroeconomic picture of the future.

    Identity Management in the Blockchain
bring your own identity – bring your own assets – bring your own storage
peaker: Pete van Velden, Antifragile blockstack & dataviz pro Business Intelligence Analyst at Ultrafast Fibre

    Topic of Abstract:

    Identity Management in the Blockchain
bring your own identity – bring your own assets – bring your own storage

The internet as we know it today was built based on ‘fat clients on thin protocols’. This has resulted in many data security challenges like we have recently seen with Facebook, large-scale ‘honeypot’ hacks or other types of private data exploitation. The current World Wide Web relies heavily on the need for ‘trusted third parties’ in everything we do on it. This will soon change.

Blockchain-based tech now allows the application end-user to really own her own data. It allows her to bring her own assets and her own storage to the table. She therefore no longer needs any men or women in the middle.

    Speaker Bio:

‘Some things benefit from shocks; they thrive and grow when exposed to volatility, randomness, disorder, and stressors and love adventure, risk, and uncertainty.’

Pete has been enjoying a career in IT since the days of the first Internet boom (and bust).
Having a passion for data visualization and blockchain technology, his mission is to create a truly digital & decentralized identity for all New Zealanders.

Speaker: Amit Atri, Head of Marketing Automation and Analytics – Crypto Currency and Blockchain at Dacxi

    Topic of Abstract:

    The purpose

We are living in a world of connectivity using technology. Where people, devices, channels and mediums are connected digitally.

Data is the lifeblood of every intelligent enterprise, with the global economy depending on live and accurate information to run, the accuracy of the correct data in a blockchain environment is critical.

    The Model

We are currently in 3rd wave of AI where machines have cognitive abilities of perceiving, learning, abstracting and reasoning the new set of information based on the existing data models.

Data sharing is the first benefit of blockchain for AI, but for that data, integrity is the key.

How are these 3 are connected:

Blockchain will enable an immense amount of data gathered and shared in the ledger, it will require Artificial intelligence to build models that can extract information from these data patterns and feed it into a transparent system. Few key advantages of introducing blockchain model are –

    • Introducing a new model of processing data
    • Increase in productivity by reducing waste of time and resources
    • Real-time sharing and transparency of information

There are lots of examples of real use cases in education, government and retail sectors.
