About the event
AI, Machine Learning have spring boarded from pages of science fiction and our imagination, into the real world. These technological advancements have game-changing implications for business of all sizes.
As organizations strive to grow and evolve – there is an inherent need to embrace technological advancements where data becomes a key ingredient for these organizations to develop an edge over competitors and determine business success.
Machine learning offers a new solution – the ability for algorithms to learn without the need to be programmed.
Artificial intelligence brings with it a unique combination of man-to-machine interaction – where machines develop the required intelligence to process requests, connect data points, and draw conclusions.
AI is a new level of cognition that has truly grown useful in certain aspects of our daily lives in today’s world.
From automatically offering weather reports and travel alerts of your destination cities- to simple functions like setting reminders- to sending invitations to picking up a birthday cake to- AI assisting you instinctively segmenting your customer groups for targeted messaging and increased response rates- to self driving cars.
Our conference aims at how all these topics – AI, Machine Learning, deep learning and cognitive sciences relate by exploring basic components of AI and how various technologies have come together to help machines become smarter and more intelligent.
We bring to you leaders in the field to discuss at length the application of AI, machine learning, deep learning in finding a solution to business problems to shaping our daily lives.
“Come be part of our forum – help us help you increase your knowledge base”.

To apply AI is to understand AI
Speaker: Mirco Milletari, Lead Artifical Intelligence Researcher at Bambu-B2B Robo Advisory
Topic of Abstract: Neural Networks based Machine learning algorithms are responsible for much of the advancement in the field of AI in the past few years. Although people have been studying theses systems as far back as the 60s, their applications outside of academia is relatively recent. The reason for this success is not only due to increased computational power, but also the devise of new algorithms and methods coming from a better understanding of AI. The best example is the Convolutional Neural Network, the paved the way to state of the art image/video recognition. Despite this, the theoretical foundations of Deep Neural Networks as still lacking. In this talk I will discuss some new insights we have recently obtained in the theory of Neural Networks, how they solve some of the problems afflicting the field and how they lead to better performing algorithms. From the applicational side, this means faster, more stable Machine Learning and the possibility to devise new applications in a targeted way instead of the “trial and error” procedure currently widespread in the industry.
Speaker Bio: Mirco holds a PhD in theoretical physics jointly from the Max Planck Institute (Stuttgart) and the university of Leipzig, Germany. He has worked in the field of random and strongly correlated quantum systems in Italy, Germany and Singapore. These works have been published in leading, international journals. Currently, he is the leading AI scientist at Bambu Robot Advisory, where he applies insights from statistical mechanics and dynamical systems to devise new neural networks architectures for applications in Finance and wealth management.

Does AI need a sound data strategy?
Speaker: Ram Kumar, Senior Vice President and Head of Data and Analytics for Asia Pacific division of QBE Insurance
Topic of Abstract: Companies that fail to approach AI in this pragmatic way are at risk of a competitor emerging that disrupts simply by using AI solutions to deliver the same product or service at a lower cost and higher quality.
Data is probably the most important ingredient for delivering an AI solution. The most mature companies – or those that have seen effective AI applications – are those that have grown up with data playing a central role in the way that products and services have been delivered. It’s no surprise that the companies leading the way with AI have a mountain of data.
The battle to reign supreme over AI is going to be won by data. Of course, you do need a plan to make the most of your data. If you plan on implementing AI anytime soon, you’ll also need to sort out your data so that an AI can use it. The uses of AI are incredibly varied, but there is some common ground. For one, they all need to start somewhere – with data. That underpins everything. A growing challenge that we’re seeing time and time again is that businesses often aren’t data ready to drive advanced analytics or AI.
This presentation will focus on building a data driven culture in an organisation which is equally or even more important than the people, process and technology that consume it to drive business outcomes in an integrated manner.
Speaker Bio: Ram Kumar is the Senior Vice President and Head of Data and Analytics for Asia Pacific division of QBE Insurance. In his role, Ram is responsible for defining and executing data and analytics strategy to build capabilities in the areas of Business Portfolio Intelligence, Customer Intelligence, Underwriting and Pricing Intelligence, Claims Intelligence, and Data Lifecycle Management and Governance.
Prior to joining QBE and moving to Hong Kong in March 2016, Ram lived in Australia for 25 years and his last role was with Insurance Australia Group (IAG), the No.1 General Insurer in Australia and New Zealand where he held executive positions namely, Group Head of Data and Privacy, Chief Information Officer of Asia and Group Chief Technology Officer. Ram played a key role in helping IAG expand in Asia.
Ram comes with over 30 years of solid background in various areas of IT from strategy to operations and over 18 years of background in data strategy, execution and governance. He has a strong basic and applied R&D background in AI and Machine learning and was actively involved in this field between 1986 to 2005. His first AI project was in 1986 and ML driven advanced analytics project in 1992.
Ram has published over 150 articles in international journals and conferences. Ram holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering

DevOps meets Machine Learning
Speaker: Aki Ranin, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer at Bambu B2B Robo-Advisory
Topic of Abstract: The way software is created is about to change permantently through Artificial Intelligence. Rather than code strict and static rules, Machine Learning enables us to teach software desired behaviors based on data.
Here is the article I just wrote on this topic. The presentation would follow this outline.
Speaker Bio: Aki has started two startups using A.I. as part of their software: Bambu in Fintech, and Missionready in Health & Fitness. Aki also writes frequently on Medium about startups and technology.
